Chasing light on the water
Photographs shaped by tide, time, and Great Lakes weather.
I'm Jason Dean - a Michigan-based photographer telling quiet stories from the freshwater coast. Prints, projects, and journal entries from a life spent close to the shore.
Between shorelines
A slow craft, made in the space where water meets air.
My work lives in the pauses - the fog at first light, the last wave before the storm rolls in, the reflection that only appears if you're patient enough to wait for it. Every image here started as a walk to the water.
Shoreline series
Long-exposure studies of Lake Michigan, Superior, and the coasts between.
Wandering projects
Personal essays photographed on foot across the Upper Peninsula.
Commissioned work
Editorial, brand, and portrait projects with a fine-art sensibility.

The Dean's List
Field notes from the freshwater coast.
Essays on light, gear I actually use, and the stories behind the frames. Written slowly, from wherever the camera lands.
